Actress Sarah Bernhardt brush by Alphonse Mucha

The Czech painter Alfonso Mucha gained fame thanks to her collaboration with Sarah Bernhardt, the famous French dramatic actress. It all started with the fact that Mucha drew a poster for Bernard and her Renaissance theater for the performance of Gismond. The poster made a sensation and the actress liked it so much that she signed an exclusive contract with the artist for 6 years. 

During this time, posters were drawn for a series of performances for the Day of Sarah Bernhardt (right) - a celebration that included a banquet, musical plays and dramatic scenes on the stage to commemorate the actress. On this poster, Mucha used typical elements of his corporate identity - a background made in the form of mosaics, intricate floral ornaments, a luxurious head of hair of the main character, a circle above her head resembling a halo.
